Contemporary dance is a very expressive dance style. The style centres around structured steps and incorporates a dancer's own interpretations and emotions.
Contemporary dance combines floor work, isolations, contractions, layouts and leaps, requiring both strength and agility.

Acrobatics
Acrobatics or "Acro" dance is a style of dance that combines precision acrobatic elements with dance techniques. Acro is a popular dance style in competitive dance as well as in professional dance theatre and contemporary circus productions such as those by Cirque du Soleil.
The requirement for an Acro dancer is a supple, agile and strong physique since the style is physically demanding.

Hip-Hop
Hip-Hop is an energetic dance style developed from several dance cultures, including street dance, jazz, Latin, rock, and tap. What makes this genre unique is the freestyle movements that allow dancers to express their personalities. But don't let the freestyle form fool you, Hip-Hop requires a great amount of coordination, practice, and skill. Dancers with a good sense of rhythm and coordination find it easier to master this dance style.
Popular styles include Breaking/Breakdancing/B-boy/B-girl, Popping, Locking, Waacking, Old School, New School, House, Lyrical, Stepping, Tutting and Krump.
Arts Elevation is proud to teach all these styles as part of our Hip-hop classes. We are also pleased to announce that dancers can now complete the optional hip-hop performance levels from the age of 5.

B-boy / b-girl
breaking
Breakdance, or B-boy and B-Girl as dancers know it, is sometimes confused with Hip-Hop. The reality is that Hip-Hop is a broad genre that includes B-boy as one of its many sub-styles. Breakdance is the original Hip-Hop style before the genre developed into a broader range of styles. Breakdance is so uniquely different to all other Hip-Hop sub-styles that it's wise for studios to give it a class and category of its own.
Breakdance tends to be more athletic, and dancers often move on their hands, heads or shoulders. The four basic elements that make up breakdance are Topock, Downrock, Freeze, and Power Moves.

Tap
Tap dancing is another of the dance genres offered by Arts Elevation.
Our Tap classes teach the dancer to incorporate strict rhythm and tempo. They also help dancers improve their musicality and sense of rhythm. The tap shoes have steel taps which allow the dancer to "play " rhythmic tunes" with their feet.

Ballet is the classical technique that gives the dancer the basics to develop and strengthen the body. A classically trained dancer can use the knowledge gained by incorporating Ballet techniques to enhance other dance styles.
Dancers are required to wear soft ballet pumps or, at a later stage, pointe shoes which will enable them to dance on the tips of their toes.
