Dawn Meyer

 

Dawn Meyer started her dance journey when she began dance and drama lessons at the age of four (4). Dawn made her first television appearance at the age of ten (10) and went on to stage her first full-length show at the age of fifteen (15).

 

Dawn has been teaching dance and drama since 1969, having opened a studio whilst still at school. Since then, she has gained tremendous exposure and experience across all dance styles, and at all levels.

 

Dawn has lectured at various performing arts events both locally and internationally and, over and above her hands-on studio training, has also accumulated decades of experience working with corporate clients.

Dawn is a registered teacher-member of the following associations:

  • A.I.D.T.: Examiner of Modern, and Hip-Hop

  • R.A.D.: Registered teacher of Ballet

  • Pacroda: Founder, Developer and Examiner of Pacroda (Performance Acro Dance Affiliation)

  • A.F.S.A.: Member and former examiner of Acrobatics

  • S.A.G.F.: Judge and coach of Acrobatic Dance Sport. Former Judge of SA Championship

Professional qualifications and experience

Listed below is an abbreviated version of Dawn's professional qualifications and corporate dance activities.

  • Lectured Performing Arts Ministry from 1987 at Rhema Bible College and various colleges around the country. Written, choreographed, produced, directed and costumed over ten original major musical productions and staged many dramas.

  • Guest Lecturer & tutor for Youth events for Heritage Day, the most recent being at Hammanskraal.

  • Trained and escorted dancers as a member of the South African team to international dance competitions, including competitions in America and Croatia.

  • Lecturer in creative and performing arts, in South Africa and Overseas.

  • Choreographed, designed and manufactured costumes for the following corporates:  Boehringer Mannheim, Gillette, Toyota, Roche, Samsung, Seale, IQ Mettel, Ernest and Young, Johnson and Johnson, Spoornet, Rand Merchant Bank, F.N.B, Acuvue, Avroy Schlain, Diversey, Old Mutual,  MBD Credit Solutions, Proudly South African Awards and many more.

  • Devised, directed and choreographed a 25min production titled ‘The Cage’ for FNB Dance Umbrella.

  • Choreographed, acted and danced for television programmes as well as Christmas and Easter specials for SABC 1 & 2, as well as music videos. 

  • Choreographed choir, dancers, singers and actors for the musical production “Leap”

  • Choreographed the choir and acted for the production ‘Daughters of the King’ at the Joburg Mandela Civic Theatre.  

  • Conferences and awards:  Rand Merchant Bank Conference at Sun City 2004 - 2008

  • Eskom ETA awards 2000 - 2006 including distinguished delegates from the African Countries and Summit Delegates. 

  • Choreographed many other large company choirs as well, for various events and television.

  • Choreographed the JHB Civic Theatre (Mandela) Production for the merging of the Universities and Colleges under one umbrella.

  • Choreographed and directed many school revues and musical productions.

  • Resident and Championship adjudicator of festivals and eisteddfods throughout the country in all disciples of dance as well as drama, since 1984.

  • Guest teacher for various workshops and conferences in Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KZ Natal and the Free State in acrobatics, jazz, contemporary, musical theatre, tap and dramatic and performing arts.

  • Devised and conducted a development programme in Soweto, where trainee coaches in Acrobatics were taught to actually train pupils themselves.  Seven learners qualified for the S.A. Junior Nationals in 2006, one attaining a silver medal.  Many other medals were won at the Central Gauteng Regional Competitions.

  • Conducted open classes, launching the Hip-Hop syllabus and teaching and examining for A.I.D.T.  in Canada in 2005 and 2010 also examined AFSA Acrobatics in Canada 2008 and 2010.

  • Choreographed and costumed 36 dancers, 30 person choir, as well as the singers for the CFAN (Christ for all nations) Fire Conference with Reinhard Bonnke at the Coca-Cola Dome.
